The Mother Beyond the Gate

The Mother Beyond the Gate
The Mother Beyond the Gate

The Mother Beyond the Gate holds tenderness at a scale that borders on the incomprehensible. A maternal presence rises beyond ordinary proportion, yet the work resists turning magnitude into power alone. What dominates is a profound stillness: the sense of something protective, distant, and perhaps unreachable, existing beyond the limits of human measure.

Between intimacy and immensity lies the work’s central tension. The gesture of holding suggests closeness, while the surrounding space continually opens outward, placing that closeness against forces that feel older and larger than individual memory. Light gathers along the central passage with almost physical intensity, but it offers no simple promise. It may be threshold, remembrance, revelation—or merely the place toward which longing has learned to direct itself.

The title introduces a separation that cannot easily be resolved. If the mother is beyond the gate, then someone remains on this side of it. The distance may be spiritual, temporal, psychological, or something for which language has no adequate category.

What persists is the possibility that the gate separates less than it appears to. Perhaps the greater mystery is not what waits beyond it, but what within us already recognizes what is there.
