The Memory Beyond the Self

The Memory Beyond the Self
The Memory Beyond the Self

The Memory Beyond the Self unfolds around an encounter of unequal scale: a solitary human presence held before something vast, fractured, and strangely intimate. The distance between them feels ceremonial, yet the deeper tension is inward. What appears monumental may be less an external apparition than the pressure of something remembered without ever having been consciously known.

Light gathers at the threshold between these presences, giving the surrounding darkness a sense of expectancy. It does not clarify what is being witnessed. Instead, it makes uncertainty more profound, illuminating the fragile boundary between recognition and mystery. The immense form seems simultaneously emerging and disappearing, as though memory itself were incapable of remaining whole once brought into consciousness.

The title opens a more unsettling possibility: that remembrance may extend beyond the limits of individual identity. What, then, belongs entirely to the self? The work allows personal memory, inherited experience, and something more ancient to occupy the same psychological space without resolving their differences.

Before this scale, the human figure becomes both small and essential—the point at which the unknowable is encountered. Whether she is remembering, being remembered, or standing before something that has always existed within her remains suspended in the silence.
